FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you offer custom work?
Short answer...yes. We all have a different idea of what custom work looks like. Looking to customize one of our pieces? Send us an email at email@example.com for more information.
What finishes do you use?
Finishes vary from piece to piece and with different materials. From a hand-rubbed oil and wax finish, to a tough conversion varnish finish, to a medium gloss lacquer finish, we pick the best finish for the piece. We are happy to discuss custom finishes based on the piece you are interested in, send us an email!
What are your drawers made of?
We make all standard drawers in matching hardwoods! All drawers are dovetailed or pinned and made of matching hardwoods with a matching ply bottom. We finish our drawers the same as the cabinet they are housed in.
What kind of drawer slides do you use?
We now use full extension Blum under-mount drawer slides on all drawered pieces. Some images may show other drawer slides. Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
I am interested in your colored lacquer pieces? Are these solid hardwoods too?
Yes. Our colored lacquer finish is applied atop a solid poplar cabinet. You get the best of both worlds. Since the cabinets are made of solid poplar you still have some of the grain texture once the lacquer is applied. It's pretty awesome.
Do you offer materials other than what is on your site?
What you see is what we specialize in. However, we are always looking to add materials and colors so be sure to check back.
Is there any assembly required?
It depends on the piece. If assembly is required it should be noted on the product detail page. Email us if you have any questions regarding assembly.
What does it cost to ship to the continental US?
We now offer FREE Shipping on many of our side tables, coffee tables, CAMPLAMPs, and sideboards based on weight. Additional fees apply to AK, HI, and Canada orders.
Can you provide a detailed quote on shipping?
Of course. We are happy to provide a detailed shipping quote on large or multiple item orders. Contact us at email@example.com for a detailed shipping quote on your next piece.
How long until my order ships?
It varies. Our work is made to order (that's what makes it unique). Construction time estimates vary based on the piece and number of items under construction. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Build estimates are estimates and may not be the actual completition date.
Do you have any pieces built and ready to ship?
Not always. As our work is made to order we always have projects in the works that may fit your space. We will continue to post available now items to our store so be sure to check back often. Also, we occasionally offer display and discounted pieces through our Etsy site, Four House + Home.
How do you ship your items?
Our side tables, lamps, and other small items ship via FedEx Ground. Larger orders, multiple piece items, tables, and sideboards are shipped via Freight on a custom crated pallet. If you are looking for white glove delivery we are happy to work with you (additional costs will apply).
Do you ship to Canada? Other countries?
We can easily ship our W.F.D.O. Side Table and other smaller items using FedEx International Ground. Fees will apply. Contact us at email@example.com for more information.
How do I care for my new piece?
Don't forget...your new piece is handmade with love using solid hardwood materials. These materials may change color over time. We strongly suggest moving objects placed on top of pieces weekly, specifically if the piece is located near natural light and for the first few months in it's new home.
Make sure to keep your piece away from direct sunlight, avoid using wax finish products such as pledge to clean your piece, use coasters and placemats to avoid marks and rings, clean any spills immediately, maintain a relative indoor humidity, and of course keep away from heat sources and open flames.
Why no pledge?
NO PLEDGE. Pledge and similar products contain silicone/wax which will build up and dull lacquer or conversion varnish over time. We suggest mineral spirits or a damp cloth worked in gently with the grain.
Why should I worry about heat?
In addition to the obvious (yes, wood will catch fire when exposed to an open flame), we recommend keeping hot objects such as plates, pots, dishes, laptops, and the likes from direct contact with clear wood finishes. Heat can and will make the wood move which can lead to cracking, discoloration, warping, etc. It's easy to avoid, use trivets, hot pads, thick placemats, rubber or felt pads on electronics, etc.
If you are worried, send us an email for more information on finishes and how to avoid damage for years to come.
Why should I care about wood movement?
We use real wood. Wood movement is natural and to be expected. All of our work is built here in the Sierra Nevada's, more specifically just down the hill from Lake Tahoe in Minden, NV. This is a dry, high desert environment. An item shipped to a similar environment will have little to no movement however, an item shipped to a high moisture environment will experience much more movement, swelling, etc. We do everything we can to prepare for this movement but still have to warn you that it is natural.
